I am speech language pathologist from Austin, Texas. I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Texas at Austin. Hook’em Horns! I also learned some American Sign Language at UT. I have always had a special connection with language; I bent the official rules of Scrabble to allow for “cool word points” with my roommates in college. I worked for 4 years at a pediatric clinic and discovered my passion for working with kids.
I enjoy targeting functional communication with children because it involves following their personal interests to inspire communication- I love seeing where they take me! I also enjoy targeting storytelling because I believe that storytelling is the core of communication and the way we connect to one another. This includes coming up with imaginative stories together, retelling events from the day or sharing how we did something. These goals support narrative language, working on the understandability of speech (targeting sounds, for instance,) and children’s literature. I am incredibly lucky to be able to spend my days here at Little Land. I have a private speech therapy room to use for quiet activities and access to the brilliantly equipped play gym to practice their skills. When I am not here I enjoy hiking with my golden retriever, browsing the farmers market, and reading.
