Justine is a COTA born and raised in Wisconsin. She attended Herzing University for a degree in Graphic Design and though she has a passion for the arts, something was missing in her professional life. The need to help others live their life to the fullest was not being met. Justine went back to school and attended MATC for an Associate Degree in Applied Arts for Occupational Therapy Assistant. While attending school, Justine worked as a Line Therapist providing both in-home and in-clinic therapy for children with primary diagnoses of ASD and a range of secondary diagnoses.
Justine has always had a passion to work with and help individuals with special needs. While attending MATC for her OTA degree, she organized a group of her classmates and designed an informational brochure to lobby at the Wisconsin state capital with all legislatures in order to turn down a bill that would allow loopholes for insurance coverage of early intervention treatment for kids with Autism. The bill was voted down! Justine has worked in Wisconsin, Alabama and now Texas as a COTA. She has additionally provided in-home care for an adolescent with ASD and assisted with OT services at Lake Forest Stables in Alabama with Therapeutic Horseback Riding for children.
Justine has a deep love and passion for helping individuals with special needs. Being a COTA is not only a career, but a lifestyle for her. Through out her experiences with multiple children with varying diagnoses she has come to appreciate the world as seen through their eyes and the unconditional love felt from a child with special needs. This one quote has stuck with her in relation to her career over the years: “When we feel love and kindness towards others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace.” – Dalai Lama XIV
